Fresh Future Trust Presentation

West Coast children's hospital services will benefit significantly as the result of the 2010 Fresh Future Appeal.

At a short ceremony, held at Grey Base Hospital on Friday 10 December, Fresh Future Trust chair Ruth Krippner and Greymouth Countdown manager Shelley Jeffrey presented an appreciative Dot O'Connor, the paediatric Clinical Nurse Manager and Patsy Sara, midwife with a cheque for $57,000.

To receive such a donation during these tight economic times, with the Christchurch earthquake also occurring during the appeal period, was tremendous. The money will be used to purchase portable Telehealth equipment that will allow outreach clinics and clinical consultations regarding patients between West Coast and tertiary centre clinicians when there are no specialists on-site at Grey Base Hospital.

An additional bonus was the donation of a large number of woollen baby clothes knitted by the staff of the Glenfield (Auckland) Foodtown and three large boxes of toys for the children of the Pike River miners were also donated.

The Greymouth and Westport Fresh Choice / Countdown supermarkets and Greymouth's Dick Smith store were fully involved in the fundraising and the West Coast public supported the Fresh Future Trust by purchasing raffles and participating in a Charity Walk.
