Buller residents reminded to have their say to help shape community health services

Buller residents are being urged to attend a meeting at 7 pm this Thursday 5 May at the NBS Theatre in Westport to discuss the future of the community's health services.

West Coast DHB CE, David Meates says, "We hope as many people as possible will attend the meeting to listen to what the options are for future health services in Buller. The more input we get from our community the better the outcomes.

"Essentially the current way we provide services in Buller is not working as well as it could be - the times have changed but our facilities and work practices haven't. People experience long waiting times for appointments and some of the facilities are outdated. There is also a lack of continuity and consistency of care.

"At the meeting we want to hear what the Buller community thinks about an integrated approach to health care. That may be putting all the services people need together in one place or splitting services between different sites - we need input to help our decision making," says David Meates.

"Once we collate the feedback we will report back to the community about feedback on different options."

At the meeting the work the Buller Joint Action Group (JAG) has undertaken so far, on developing an integrated family health centre so that all of the health needs for the Buller community can be met more effectively in the future, will be presented.

Membership of the JAG includes representatives from the Buller District Council, the O'Conor Trust, Buller Health, West Coast PHO and the West Coast DHB.

People unable to attend the meeting can access information from the West Coast District Health Board website on Friday morning. They will also be able to give feedback.

Prior to the meeting staff at Buller Health will receive a briefing so they are up to date.

-Ends-
