Feedback from Community still wanted on Buller Health Services Plan

West Coast DHB CE, David Meates is reminding people to have their say on the proposed Buller Health services plan. The plan describes the proposed new model of care for Buller, examines the options in terms of a new facility and looks at the predicted volumes and types of care to be provided in the future.

David Meates says feedback on the proposal for an Integrated Family Health Centre in Westport has been slow to date.

"We are really keen to get as much feedback from the community as possible to help shape our thinking".

"The importance of retaining medical staff and continuity of care has also been stressed as has the issue of transport for Buller patients discharged from other locations," says David Meates.

"Guidance received from the community, staff and other groups will enable the next phase of the project to have a more informed direction for the detailed planning that will be required. This is the last week for the community to have their say as all feedback is required by this Friday."

One of the key choices to be determined is whether the Integrated Family Health Centre should be on one site or two. A single site would contain all the necessary services, including care for the elderly whereas a split site would have services associated with care for the elderly on one site and other, more general community health services on a second site.

The sites for either option have yet to be determined.

Feedback via email bullerfeedback@westcoastdhb.health.nz , post (PO Box 387, Greymouth), or to reception at Buller Health and Buller Health Medical Centre is requested by Friday 27 May 2011.
