Countdown is again supporting Greymouth children's and maternity wards this year, with the launch of its annual Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal running from 5 August to 27 October 2013.

Countdown is again supporting Greymouth children’s and maternity wards this year, with the launch of its annual Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal running from 5 August to 27 October 2013.

Now in its seventh year, the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal has raised more than $5.7 million through locally-led activities. Funds raised from the Appeal go towards much needed hospital equipment for 10 children’s wards throughout New Zealand that may not otherwise have been purchased.

Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal Chairperson, Ruth Krippner, says “You don’t have to work in the health sector to make a difference to the lives of children who are unwell - simply show your support through this year’s Appeal which has lots of fun fundraising activities happening in Greymouth and throughout the country.”

“Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal is all about getting together as a community and doing what we can to support children who need us. At times we can feel a bit helpless because we can’t help in the same way doctors can, so it’s great that the Appeal helps to fundraise for much-needed equipment for kids,” says Ruth.

West Coast DHB Clinical Nurse Manager Paediatrics, Dorothy O’Connor, says equipment that has been purchased from the funds raised by the Countdown Kids appeal has enhanced WDHB’s service provision for children.

“The DHB has been able to purchase a range of amazing equipment which has made such a difference to care provided in both the Paediatric and Maternity Wards, the contribution is invaluable,” she says.

Everyone can participate by making a donation or engaging in local activities and raffles.
