Progress made on WCDHB Facilities Development Plans

A positive and productive meeting was held yesterday by the West Coast Hospital Redevelopment Partnership Group (HRPG).

Both the HRPG members and the West Coast DHB team were very pleased with the results of the intensive clinical engagement over the past month, following on from the work carried out in October and November last year.

A revamped business case, entitled the Implementation Business Case, was completed last week and the subject of discussion at the meeting. It is the result of extensive clinical engagement - over the last 10 days in February more than 50 hours of workshops involving over 70 clinicians and staff from the West Coast DHB, the West Coast PHO, general practice teams, community pharmacy, Poutini Waiora, the Canterbury DHB and service contractors were held with the Design Team.

The business case covers the redevelopment plans for both Greymouth Hospital and Integrated Family Health Centre, and an Integrated Family Health Centre in Westport.

Chief executive of Canterbury and West Coast District Health Boards, David Meates, said he was pleased with what is proposed in the Implementation Business Case. "We are keen to fully bring to life the West Coast model of care we've been delivering, and it will be great when services can be provided from modern fit-for-purpose facilities," he said.

Over the coming weeks the Implementation Business Case will be reviewed by government officials from Treasury and the Ministry of Health.

Both the HRPG and West Coast DHB teams have committed to keeping the community updated with progress as soon as information is available.
